Ah c'mon, its not THAT random (well, ok, maybe it is). I was just flattered to be recognized after 15 yrs. Well done. Oh, and as for what I was doing on the west coast.... professional surfer / male model.

Nah, actually was just living out there doing the same thing I was doing here before I left about 3 yrs ago... which was working in finance. Then I quit to go travel for a few months and now I'm back settled in to NYC.

so I haven't posted in a while but thought i'd share the story. i was walking home from work in NYC, and there was a kid standing outside of my building who looked very familiar. I started to walk by, then decided to ask where he went to camp, and sure enough, he said LNT. It was Brad Liff, hadn't seen him since summer of 95'. He just moved in, was previously living out in Cali, not sure doing what. Pretty random considering I live in a small building with roughly 20 people in the whole building.

What ever happened to Little Tommy Torches on the Lake...?

Would ya'll believe I'm teaching kindergarten and elementary English in Seoul, South Korea. And, as I am now pushing 40, I'd prefer it if you'd call me Tom. But, seeing as though ya'll knew me way back when, I suppose I could handle Tommy, too.
So many things remind me of the Twig, but it was when someone asked me what I'd be doing on a rainy Saturday afternoon that I got motivated to find all of you---the answer was "Bunko". I don't think life ever got any better than the Twig. It was Paradise and I wish I could go back. I miss ya'll a lot and I hope we can find each other in the future.
PS--The "ya'll" came from Alabama. I went to school there before moving to Missoula, Montana. I tried my hand at the so-called "rat race", but the damn wheel kept coming off the hinges.

I wanted to share with you that my son, Shiloh Meyer was born on the 26th of March at 7 AM at my home in the mountains in Colorado. Shiloh, meaning 'gift sent' in hebrew, Meyer after my grandfather weighed 7 lbs 14 oz. All went well and the experience was a blessing.

I just found this (see what happens when you are bored at work?) and I remember some of you as little kids!! I was in camp from 1979 - 1986, only stopping after finally becoming head counselor! I was looking through the posts and your stories are really funny. I have a few of my own, but don't want to embarrass myself!

hey all,

so i got married. there's a picture that i've posted. i tried to get a few others on there but failed.
so my wife is 20 weeks pregnant! she's due in march. we're not going to find out what the sex of the gersenson is going to be but i'll sure to keep y'all posted much like i'm posting here.
we're leaving for michigan on thursday for 10 weeks. she's from there and has a big family so were going to go hang with them and while i'm there i'm going to start up door to door organics michigan. check it out, michigan.doortodoororganics.com. it looks alot like denver.doortodoororganics.com and east.doortodoororganics.com although the east site is a work in progress still.
hmmm, i thought there was more to say. but there's not right now. oh, jason and andrea albert are pregnant. she is due 3 days before theresa. for those of you who don't know, jason is the best friend that i ever had so i thought it was pretty cute when i told him that theresa was pregnant and he told me that andrea was pregnant.
love,

Hi Everyone....

I apologize for missing birthdays and responding to posts....these past 8 months have been crazy here in Maryland. I got a new job teaching at a community college (I only wish it were at Rowan University!) and had a baby in January. Now with summer here, my thoughts go back 20 years (!) to my first experience at L-N-T. I am so sad that my son won't experience it---unless we all do win the lottery and take it back!

I hope everyone is well and had a great birthday. I am going to try and catch up on the 482 posts I have missed in these last few months. By the way, Rich Balzer is going to be a dad again...his wife is expecting their third child this summer. If only we knew then what we know now, huh?

Later Twiggers!

Thanks to anyone who went to our movie.....

So far we've done extremely well.....
We won the audience choice award at the Garden State Film Festival, so thanks to anyone who went and voted..... http://www.gsff.org/winners.htm

We broke a couple records at the Tampa Festival of the Moving Image(most attended movie ever) We were the first movie there to have a second show added and sold them both out, which we also won the Audience choice award.

At the Bare Bones Festival last night in Oklahoma http://barebonesfilmfest00.tripod.com/index.html we won Best Picture, Best Comedy, Best Cast, and Best Lead Actor.

We still have a couple more, including the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival http://www.nyfilmvideo.com/index.html We will be showing there on May 7th, Screen 6 at the Village East Cinemas, and we are also an invitee to the Sunscreen Festival here in Florida(this is actually a pretty prestigious one) http://www.sunscreenfilmfestival.com/schedule.html and will be showing on Saturday May 6, at 6pm. So anyway, it's only festivals, and we're not making any money yet, but it's fun and it seems like we're gettign better and maybe one day people will say..."yeah, I remember Gene..." and it'll be for a good reason, haha.

No posts in 9 days? Anyhoo, incase anyone cares, our movie got the Audience Award for the Garden State Film Festival. That means that some artsy Fartsy people didn't necessarily think it was the best, but the audience did. We are up for a lot of other awards in different festivals around the country and just broke the record for the Tampa Festival of the moving picture by selling out two shows. We'll be showing in LA this weekend, so anyone out there that's interested, let me know and I'll give you the details.

Gersenson and Siudut Mayor Rap

For Stacy Marcus, who inspired me to go find the lyrics to the Mayor Rap written by Cindy Stutman and Jill Kaufman(1991)

We'd like to make this short and sweet
Gene and Dave just can't be beat
If you want the job done right
& Camp L-n-T's future to be bright
Vote for Dave & Gene too
'cause they really care about you
Everyone says that Gene is a dream
and he will lead the L-n-T Team
Everybody knows that Dave has a big chest
& at leading this camp he will be the best
So if you want things done the right way
Vote for Gene and Dave this election day.

Stutman and Kaufman were for us, what Carville and Begala were for Clinton.

and I can't believe how much I forgot. I forgot about getting fired and then rehired and going on a raid with Moe. I forgot about having all the slam dunk contests in the bunks, and that everyone called Denise Klein "Bubbles", that Glazer watered flowers, that Herskowitz shaved balin's eyebrows(he also brought the satanic bible with him). I think It was Stacy Marcus that was commenting when talking about Brode's SKOF and that a lot of the magic is remembering firsts. I remember the first girl I ever hooked up with was on the upper diamond(Robin Bykofsky) when I was like 13. I remember in Hershkowitz bringing acid and me Mike Scherer tripping our faces off for an entire day. Come to think of it, the first time I think I ever smoked weed was with Todd Rosin and Mike Grooms behind the Kitchen Boy bunk out of a foil pipe hahahaha. I remember Dave Gersenson beating me in the marathon because I wore some stupid Reebok pumps and couldn't get them on. Or Me and Dave being elected Co mayors(back to back years) on the wings of a song written by campaign managers Jill Kaufman and Cindy Stutman. Who remembers watching the price is right in Stempa's bunk and getting fired up over games of Double Dribble? Damn I loved that time of my life. It's good to be back in the loop. So....what am I forgetting?

but I left with some great memories! I was there in '90 and '91. I was one of the shy ones and pretty much just stuck to playing sports. We left NY and moved to GA after my 2nd summer, never to return to LnT again :(

Garden State Film Festival

If anyone is interested, my friends and I have a movie coming out that will be showing at the Garden State Film Festival in Asbury Park. We are down here in Tampa(and I won't be up for it), but since we still have our Jersey connections, we will be showing there. It is called "99" and it is a comedy. It centers around a guy trying to win a bet by "bedding" 100 women during his 4 years in college. It will be shown on April 2 at 2:15. This will be the second feature length film we've done(we've also done shorts). We decided not to put ourselves into this one as much as out first one(I have a small part that is actually pretty funny, but very disturbing). Anyhoo if you want more information....go to
http://www.99themovie.com/ and to see the trailer for first movie go to http://www.1dayfilms.com/trailer_joyce/joyce_trailer.php and for my info http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1655352/

While flipping through my local inside media gossip website I ran a cross a story, involving a former camper and a former first daughter, with a last name of Clinton. If this is true, that would be interesting...Check it out, the story is in today as a headline 8 stories from the top of the site...

The past week I have seen and spoken to many old Twiggers. While in Philly, I got a call from Josh Lipoff. Then I went to a Flyers game and saw Ross Illiescu working at Steve's Prince of Steaks at the Wachovia Center. Then on Friday Howard Gillick and I met up with Mike Sham to see his camp that he owns, Arthur Reeta. On Saturday I attended "Bige E. and Linda (Bandelene) Hough's daughter's Bat Mitzvah. There I saw Moe and Ronne, Freddie Klevan, and Mike Tendler. That night I talked with Tony Duncan by phone. This Friday I picked up Andrew Tendler in from Australia with his fiance from the airport. Jeff leisawitz is in town and he joined us for "Harry Potter." Then that night at work, Josh Glazer was there who is in Los Angeles from his new home in Tokyo, Japan. What a week. Who will be next? By the way, Moe and Ronne are doing very well. They spent the summer in the Poconos at the "Twig" where they turned the canteen and office into a new home. Next summer Moe will turn 75 and discussions are in place for a major celebration with as many Twiggers as possible.

Glenn and I are thinking of adding in a section on the Camp Log-N-Twig website called "So Grows The Tree", sort of like a "Twiggers. Where Are They Now". We are getting so many emails from Twiggers past and wonder if everyone is as curious as we are to find out what former campers and counselors are up to. Updated photos are optional, of, course, but encouraged. So look for it this week and consider sending in your own personal update. As always, we welcome your comments, suggestions, and contributions!

Happy Holidays,

Trilby

p.s. After the New Year, I personally plan on taking on the Canteen, making available some classic Twig t-shirts.

Bar Mitzvah Disco

I have been getting a few emails so I thought I would clear this up.

There is a book out right now called "Bar Mitzvah Disco". It was a website now turned book. (or phenomenon) My friend Julie from college, along with two of her friends put together this book featuring bar/bat mitzvahs from the 70's to the early 90's. She asked everyone she knew to give her anything they had from this era. Me being the pack rat that I am had all this junk that I used to collect from people's parties, along with all of my pictures. I am featured in it, as well as a full page picture of my mom, with the biggest shoulder pads this side of the mississippi.

You can buy this on amazon or I think borders. It has also been featured in all the American Apparel stores accross the country. So those in LA can see me laying on the floor in front of all the girls at my bash...in the puffiest dresses ever!

I hope you are all well - I have been away from this tribe thing for a looooooooong time.

Shalom.

Maybe a different commercial spokesperson or something?? If not, what else are good halloween costume ideas. I was "got pot??" one year and it didnt work out so well considering i ended the night with a underage drinking violation. So the cleaner the better please.

We do appreciate everyone's contribution, and will do our best to post them as soon as possible. Glenn and I have recently come across even more slides, and will be converting them soon.

Thank you to everyone. The Tener Family appreciates your contributions and support to our site.

I have just recently returned from spending a week at Camp Log-n-Twig. The fall colors are spectacular. It was certainly nostalgic walking on the grounds. I have taken many pictures and plan to post them on the site.

The Camp LNT site is viewed by many daily. This is a site we are proud of, and glad everyone is enjoying.

I'm currently in Athens for the semester, and just a quick funny story i thought i would share. One of the girls in my apartment is from Jersey (short hills) and recently we realized that her mother and aunts went to LNT back in the day, and still has all their shirts, etc. Brody, I know you will be asking their names, but I'm not sure..I will get back to you on that.
Congrats to all those who recently got married, babies, etc. take care

I just discovered this while surfing the web. My sister and I both went to Log N Twig in the early 90's. I was in Bunk 3 the first year and Bunk 6 the second. A couple of names I remember are Becky Levy & Stephanie Black. I have always wanted to know what happened to all the people I meet during those summers. I am from Texas so as you can imagine it was kind of hard to keep in touch. I would love to hear from any of my old bunk mates. My sisters name is Kim Ostiguin (well Belcik now, she has been married for five years and is expecting her first baby in March).

Hey everybody!

I just wanted to drop a line and tell you all that my girlfriend Lisa and I got engaged a few days ago. I proposed to her in front of 300 campers and counselors at Rolling River Day Camp where we first met (and still work). We are still in the "enjoying the moment" phase, even though everyone wants to know what date we've picked (which we haven't yet).

Hope you're all doing well!

Glenn has updated the camplogntwig.com website. There are some cool pictures of the 50's and then there have been bunk pictures divided into Boys bunks and Girls bunks that have been added. Glenn would like you to send more bunk pictures so that he can expand. In the coming weeks he'll be adding thousands of more slides that he found recently.

So What happened?

I recently located this and the www.camplogntwig.com web page, it didn't take long to locate a picture of myself there (look at the '70's pictures, about the 6 or 7th picture, I'm the one dribbling the black basket ball).

I stopped by the camp one summer day in the early 90's and it was like stepping back in time to my childhood, I was surpirsed at how much shorter of a walk it was from the office where I met "Uncle Moe" to the Rec Hall than I had remembered.

It's amazing all the little things you remember about the camp, like how color war started, I could remember everybody in the bunk wakeing up with paint on their faces from the counselors, or the "breakfast in bed" the morning after color war was completed. Or how about adding your own graffiti to the cabin walls? I'm sure my list can go on and on.

I was saddened to hear that the camp closed after the '99 season. What happened? I hope everything is well with the Tener family.
That time of year

I guess it is instinctively drilled into my body since I was 10 years old and made my first trip to Log-n-Twig, but when the June time weather comes around my thoughts and expectations go straight to camp. I just watched the Final Reunion Video that I had made for that reunion up in the Poconos. It is great and made me realize just how much I miss all of you and how we shared the best of times together that we can never truly go back to. When I was recently back east and got the video from the Tendler's household I had a chance to see a bunch of Twiggers that I have watched grow up from kids to having kids of their own. Nowhere else in the world can you truly appreciate that potential. As the Brodemobile is almost completely done being overhauled like new (should be done next week, finally) and Father's Day approaches, I realize that I physically live in the adult world in California, but my heart remains a kid in the Poconos.
Nobody has posted recently, so it would be nice to hear all of your thoughts as camp time draws near. I just watched the 20th Anniversary edition of Shawnee Deleware Day 85 solely made for Jon Botwinick cause he was away in France. What a delight!!!!!!!

Wayne Denno

Scott, you may be the only person to answer this for me. This was in the paper yesterday. They showed a picture of Wayne Denno and he looks exactly like the dude hired by Moe to film that new LNT video. You know, the guy who got into a car accident the same night Bookie and I hit that deer. Is it him?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The four men arrested yesterday in the stabbing deaths of Wayne and Carol Denno said they did it because the Warminster couple owed them an $800 drug debt - and they brought a toddler along to the crime scene, authorities said.

Bucks County District Attorney Diane Gibbons said Carol Denno called the suspects Thursday and invited them to bring drugs to the Denno home on the 1400 block of Bradley Lane.

The four West Philadelphia men - Allan Dillard, 21, and three Carmichael brothers - Matthew, 23, David, 28, and Carlos, 31 - arrived with Matthew Carmichael's 2-year-old son so neighbors would not be suspicious, Gibbons said.

The little boy drank a glass of juice that Carol Denno, 44, gave him, and the six adults smoked crack cocaine, she said.

But afterward, Wayne Denno, 47, and Dillard began fighting over the money the couple owed, Gibbons said. Dillard pulled a knife and began stabbing Denno, who yelled for his wife to grab a gun.

She ran to the bedroom, where David Carmichael caught and stabbed her, Gibbons said. At Dillard's prompting, the other Carmichael brothers also stabbed or hit Wayne Denno, she said.

The Dennos were stabbed more than two dozen times each; Carol Denno's throat was slit and Wayne Denno was practically decapitated. His body was left in the kitchen, hers in the bedroom.

It is unknown what the child witnessed. The crime scene, Gibbons said, "spans the house."

"Usually it's one room," she said.

In this case, police found evidence in every room, including the basement, and outside on the driveway.

"It's a very bloody crime scene," she said.

After the killings, the suspects removed 10 guns from the house, including rifles, shotguns and an AK-47, she said. They used them to get more drugs and to pay their own drug debt.

The Dennos died between 5 and 6 p.m. Thursday. A relative found the bodies Saturday.

All four suspects confessed, Gibbons said. They were expected to be arraigned late last night and charged with first-degree murder, robbery, burglary, theft and conspiracy. They will be held without bail. Gibbons said she will seek the death penalty.

Neighbors said they still were in shock yesterday.

"I'm just appalled that I didn't hear anything," said Carmela Devlin, who rents a house about 60 feet away.

Judy Coupe, who works out of her home across the street from the Dennos, was home all day Thursday, but heard nothing.

She said she did not really know the couple.

"I don't think by nature they were close to anyone" in the neighborhood, she said.

While working at Canter's last night a couple of police officers came in as they do from time to time to eat. I jokingly said to one of them that I had hoped they were here to tell me that they found my car. The officer asked where it was stolen from. He then said that that area is handled by Hollywood District and they never find anything. These guys were from Wilshire District and they find everything. He asked me my name and after I told him, he said that he did find my car. In fact he found it before it was reported stolen. Whoever tried to steal it, got pulled over minutes later for some reason ( I assume Brodemobile was being reckless to attract attention of the police) and this officer was told by the robber that I leant him the car. Well this joker had no license so they impounded the Brodemobile at the Wilshire District impound under a hold for 30days. I still have yet to be informed that my car is in jail with the other inmate cars. I now need to get clearance from the Wilshire auto Detectives who don't work on Sundays to remove the hold and bail out the car whichwas said to have no damage or anything stolen. Hopefully on Monday the Brodemobile will be back at home with its loved ones. The SAGA continues...

I know a few of you people will be in the Philly/Cherry Hill area for Nikki's wedding over the weekend so here is one more event to add to that.

My little brother turns 21 on 6/26 and has decided to have a BBQ and party at the Klein house in Cherry Hill on the 4th of July. It will probably begin sometime in theafternoon and not end until people are passed out or sneaking out to fuck his friends. haha j/k.
All are welcome. There will be plenty of booze and food.

...i guess its looking like im not really making it down the shore all weekend :)

Hey everybody! I found this site and the LNT site by accident today and decided to join up. My name is Danny Rothbard, I was at LNT for two years, 1991 and 1992. I was another Cedarhurst kid along with half of the camp lol...Anyway seeing all these pictures and hearing some stories made me think about the brief time I had at LNT and the fun we all had there. I know I wasnt there as long as people like Laura Ronen, Nikki, Justin, and Scott Brody, but it was great to think about all the stuff the camp was about.

I ended up at Towson university and then came back to Long Island where I am now teaching elementary school math in Valley Stream. My girlfriend and I (of 3 years) moved in together last fall and things are going really well. She was actually best friends with Laura Ronen at Hewlett, how ironic! I work at Rolling River Day Camp and thats where I have been since I left LNT. I am a head counselor for 5th and 6th grade boys.

I saw Gabby Bobrow the other day (I am best friends with her cousin Seth) and she just got engaged. She had mentioned a recent reunion in the city and I had forgotten about it till I saw this website today...

Anyway its great to see and hear people again from camp. When I can think of some stories and interesting things to talk about I will post them. Other than that, as Jeff Liesawitz used to say:

"I love to be a kid, only for a minute, only for a lifetime..."

Hello from Trilby Tener

Hello everyone from Camp Log-N-Twig! Like my brother Glenn, I, too just joined this website. It's so wonderful to see that so many have taken such an interest in something that has meant so much to my family over these many years. Glenn and I have just recently created a website for our Dad, Uncle Moe. For those of you who have not had the pleasure of viewing it, please check it out www.mortontener.com.

In light of a recent thread on this tribe.net site, I would like to take this time to announce the pending of The Official Camp Log-N-Twig Website. Glenn and I have been working on it for three months now, and plan to post it early 2005. We are in the process of gathering information form our own archives as well as individually converting Camp Log-N-Twig slides (dating back as early as 1953) to digital photos. So far there are over 1600 photos to be posted. It's very exciting for us, and we are sure you will be pleased when you view it.

The closing of camp was very sad and difficult for the whole Tener Family. I, myself, had spent my summers there since I was only three months old! It was and always will be home to me, and to my Parents and brothers, Glenn and Michael. I was in my residency at the time of its closing, and, though I wanted more than anything to, I was not in any situation to keep it going. That said, I'm not so sure that I would have been able to accomplish what my Parents had. I am currently a traveling physician, and as challenging as these many years have been studying, training and practicing in the medical field, it does not compare to the long and difficult hours we witnessed our Parents had put in. I guess what I'm trying to say is, "easier said than done". The summers you all so much enjoyed were the result of a year round of tenacity, love, and commitment. The product of which I see to this day still touch all of you.

Hello to Tammy and Nadine! I will try emailing you, again! Thank you to Scott for telling Glenn and I about this site. Always a pleasure to reminisce with you, Scott! Jason, we will let you know when the guest house is ready for you!

Take care, Twiggers! Uncle Moe and Aunt Ronne send their love!

how many passwords do most of you have for all of the different sites and email accounts and what not. i think it's fair to include bike combination locks(mine is a key entry, because i don't want to remember numbers anymore or at least all the time) car combination locks like the ones on maximas, little safes that you keep your valuebles in at home(like passports and extra keys to your bike just incase you lose your bike key. it's always nice to have an extra bike key but you still have to take the bus home to get the bike key and than take the bus back and than ride the bike home unless you have your bus pass or a dollar and a quarter in which case you can put your bike on the front of the bus and take the bus back home and than bike from the bus stop to your home?) password questions like, "what's your favorite color" green or "how are you" good can count. if you have an electronic passnumber to get into your buliding that counts but if you have to take the elevator up to your apartment or penthouse suite, hitting the button in the elevator doesn't count unless you are hitting the wrong button 50% (getting off at the wrong floor, looking for your apartment and saying to yourself, "oh yeah" or "gosh naggit, i did it again", also the door to the elevator has to shut and you have to wait for it to come back again. that or you have to take the steps and it's ok to tell us if and when you take the steps sometimes you go the wrong way on the steps) of the time. i have at least 10 probably more. but the better news is that i also get my license back next week.

I'm in the Wall Street Journal. If you get the time/energy walk your ass out to the news stand and pick up today's WSJ (4/13/05) and read section D1. Or I'll just copy and paste it for you hear.

The Farmers' Market Hits Your Doorstep --- New
Food-Delivery Services Offer Organic Produce; Eating a
Box of Radishes

By Katy McLaughlin
1,573 words
13 April 2005
The Wall Street Journal
D1
English
(Copyright (c) 2005, Dow Jones & Company, Inc.)

IT'S ONE OF THE STALEST marketing terms in the book:
"farm fresh." But today, a new crop of food-delivery
services is promising just that.

A variety of small, fast-growing operations are
carving out a niche business by offering groceries
that have traveled quickly from the fields to the
dinner table. Typically the services bypass the
traditional warehouses that dominate the
food-distribution system, and instead buy straight
from farmers during the growing season.

The outfits take many forms -- some are Web-based
delivery companies, while others are essentially
membership clubs run by individual farms, known as
Community Supported Agriculture programs, or CSAs.
Members pay an up-front fee, and in return get a box
of fresh produce every week. Some programs even boast
that their carrots and tomatoes were picked only a few
hours before they reach customers' hands. In addition,
the produce can be less expensive than specialty
grocery stores offering similar goods.

The delivery operations are growing quickly.
Currently, at least 1,200 farms nationwide offer CSAs,
according to the Robyn Van En Center for CSA Resources
in Chambersburg, Penn. That's more than double the
number listed by the organization six years ago. One
CSA launched last month by Stone Barns Center for Food
& Agriculture, which operates on a New York estate
formerly owned by the Rockefellers, has already sold
out its 60 memberships -- at $800 a pop. For that
amount, members get a large box of fancy produce,
including arugula and radicchio, for 20 weeks a
season. Other CSAs charge much less; Hog's Back Farm
in Arkansaw, Wis., charges $450 for 18 weeks of fruits
and vegetables, for example.

Arrangements like these do make some demands on
consumers, however. Most CSAs don't deliver; instead,
consumers must collect their boxes at the farm or a
designated pick-up point. Some farms also require
members to pitch in and help pack and distribute the
boxes for a few hours each season.

And if the farm's strawberry crop is a bust, but
there's a bumper crop of kale, you had better like
kale. Kathleen Weldon, an administrative assistant who
joined a CSA in Cambridge, Mass., recalls last year
receiving one box that was almost all greens and
radishes. "It does push the boundaries of your
culinary expertise," she says. "I didn't know you
could cook radishes."

The booming popularity of CSAs and other providers is
the latest evidence that consumers are in the market
for both organic and specialty produce, and are
willing to change their shopping habits to get it. In
recent years, specialty produce has become
increasingly available not only at gourmet chains and
traditional supermarkets, but also farmers' markets.
In five years, the number of farmers' markets
nationwide rose nearly 30%, to 3,706 in 2004,
according to the Department of Agriculture.

A share in a CSA usually costs from $300 to $500,
according to the Robyn Van En Center for CSA
Resources. It operates a national directory of CSAs on
its Web site www.csacenter.org (click on "Directory").
For more search options, there is a listing of
resources at www.nal.usda.gov/afsic/csa .

Joining a CSA is generally straightforward. Contact
the provider, and it will usually provide a membership
form that lists prices and describes what a member can
expect to receive.

Farms aren't the only ones angling for the farm-fresh
dollars. A handful of online grocery stores are
specializing in direct-from-the-fields food.
Westsideorganics.com in the San Francisco Bay Area,
which delivers organic groceries to consumers' doors,
says it has doubled its customer base during the past
six months. Meanwhile, other specialized produce-only
delivery services are reporting steady growth.

In May, Freshdirect.com, an Internet grocery store
operating in the New York metropolitan area, plans to
roll out a mobile version of a farmers' market. The
company says it has struck deals with a number of
farms that ordinarily sell in New York City's farmers'
markets. Now they will sell part of their crops to
Freshdirect.com, which will market it as "local"
produce on its Web site.

The traditional route for supermarket produce is from
the farm to a truck, then to a warehouse, then onto
the storage room at the back of a supermarket, and
finally out onto store shelves.

Small delivery companies say they are able to knock
several days off the supply chain because they buy
directly from farmers and deliver to consumers,
without detouring through warehouses. "There's
virtually no handling," says Ash Sud, president of
Westside Organics.

Small companies that specialize in farm-fresh product
can deliver on their promise at least some of the
time, says Steve Lutz, executive vice president of the
Perishables Group, a consulting firm that specializes
in perishable groceries. That's because many
supermarkets are so large that they are often forced
to truck in supplies from big production farms in
California or Mexico. But in the past 10 years, many
supermarket chains have greatly improved freshness by
handling produce at the right temperatures and
reducing the time it spends in the warehouse and
storage room, says Mr. Lutz.

But some produce isn't fresh no matter who sells it,
says Mr. Lutz. For example, apples are almost always
picked in the fall and stored in cold rooms during the
rest of the year.

A recent test of five services that deliver a weekly
box of organic produce to the door indicates that
organic produce has come a long way since it first
developed a reputation for looking more pockmarked and
less perfect than conventional produce. All five
companies delivered fresh, shiny fruits and
vegetables. But the services varied widely on price
(one charged $6 a pound for a mix of items) as well as
convenience.

And some of the companies have some primitive aspects.
To register for automatic payment with one service,
lovedelivery.com, we had to first snail-mail an
imprint of our credit card, which we were told to make
by putting it under a sheet of paper and rubbing it
with a pen. But once we were signed up, the produce --
including lots of blackberries and exotic mushrooms --
worked out to be a bargain.

---

Ordering Out

-- Organic delivery services: Companies will
deliver a preset package of
organic produce for a weekly fee.

-- Online groceries: Some online grocers specialize
in locally grown
produce, which they say can be fresher than groceries
in a typical
traditional supermarket.

-- CSAs: These are essentially membership clubs run
by individual farms.
An upfront fee of several hundred dollars entitles
members to a weekly box of
food.

---

Comparing Organic-Produce Delivery
Services

A variety of fast-growing companies will either
deliver food by truck or
ship it by FedEx.

SERVICE: Lovedelivery.com; Los Angeles area
PRICE/POUND: $55/30 different items, about four
servings of each
CONVENIENCE FACTOR: We had to create a homemade
imprint of our credit card
by running a pen over a piece of paper and then
snail-mail it to them.
FREEDOM OF CHOICE: Web site allows user to specify
likes and dislikes from a
long list of choices
COMMENT: Produce was fresh and a good deal.Web site
language was circa 1969
(produce is called a "box of love )

SERVICE: Diamondorganics.com; nationwide delivery
PRICE/POUND: $55/nine pounds, including delivery via
FedEx
CONVENIENCE FACTOR: SophisticatedWeb site makes
ordering easy; and the FedEx
box with ice packs can make delivery easier than most
services.
FREEDOM OF CHOICE: Shoppers can buy whatever they
want, but we bought the
Organic Sampler, a box that isn t customizable at all.

COMMENT: Most expensive service, at about $6 a pound.

SERVICE: Planetorganics.com; San Francisco Bay area
PRICE/POUND: $28/ four to six kinds of fruit and four
to six kinds of
vegetables.
CONVENIENCE FACTOR: For delivery, consumers either
have to wait around,
trust the neighbors, or give the service a key to the
home.
FREEDOM OF CHOICE: Users can choose form a long list
of types of boxes-all fruit, all vegetable, or
half-and-half, and then specify the items
COMMENT: Many customers choose to provide a housekey,
says Planet Organics.
They'll even put food in the fridge.

SERVICE: Doortodoororganics.com; parts of Denver,
Boulder,
Maryland,Virginia,Washington D.C., New York, Conn.,
New Jersey, and
Pennsylvania
PRICE/POUND: $36/11 to 13 items (costs less in
Colorado)
CONVENIENCE FACTOR: Web site was confusing because we
had to jump to a
special area to make substitutions, and there was no
confirmation of our
final list.
FREEDOM OF CHOICE: Once we bypassed the Web site and
phoned in our order,
things got easy and the service accepted all our
substitutions.
COMMENT: We got a mealy apple one week, but the
service let us substitute
with pears the next week.

SERVICE: Urbanorganic.com; New York, Westchester,
Long Island and parts of
New Jersey
PRICE/POUND: $23/10 to 13 pounds of produce
CONVENIENCE FACTOR: It pays to call because service
is more accomodating
than the Web site indicates.
FREEDOM OF CHOICE: Customers can list three items
that they don't ever want
to get and choose substitution items.
COMMENT: In our area (Brooklyn, N.Y.), items were
both cheaper and better
than organic produce in local stores.

List of things Danny remembers (or at least part of a list)

By the way if anyone wants to catch up, my AIM name is DJpuff44. Ok, so I was thinking about some things from camp today and in no order here is what I came up with:

PURPLE HAZE!!! I remember the ghetto coke and pepsi game
The songs at every social - Coke and Pepsi (8:15), Electric slide (8:30), Piano Man (9:00 on a saturday!!!) la la la, la la la, la la, 2...3...4..., Blister in the sun (violent femmes thank you George Jamison), American Pie (last song where everyone "kicked off their shoes"), the slow songs (wonderful tonight, more than words, rush rush, wind beneath my wings)...

The CITs lighting the path to the dining hall with candles on Friday nights

those pesky water snakes

the waterfall not working (1991) and we would walk across the top to get to lunch

knockout

the social on the b-ball court cuz it was so fuckin hot out

Alan Morgatini winning the cross dress contest as Debbie D. Dallas

Marc Moeller's hop skip and a jump volleyball serve

Brody's "cereal contest" at breakfast where the winner would "lose cereal to him"...I lost my cinnamon toast crunch

The guy who told us to get salad/cereal at meal times

Shawnee place, Tomahawk Lake, and Tomahawk Lake

Justin Glazer admitting to being a "J.A.P."

"Hey ___" "Hey what?" "Are you ready?" "To what"? "to jig!" "gig what?" "Gigolo...woo! our hands are high are feet are low and this is how we gigolo....Gig-a-lo, gig-gig-a-lo Woo!"

"here's mr. willoughby, willoughby, willoughby, here's mr. willouby all night long,
here comes another one just like other one, here comes another one all night long,
swining that partner partner partner swing that partner all night long,
struttin' down the alley alley alley alley, strutting down the alley all night long,
clap your hands!
stomp your feet!
mr. willoughby cant be beat, so
(repeat from start)"
And after about 2 minutes of that everyone would chant "sit down and shut up STOMP STOMP sit down and shut up STOMP STOMP..."

carrying benches to and from the gym friday nights

Bunk F changing the words of Adon Olam to "boner through a donut, boner through a twinkie..."

Tony Duncan admonishing us to be in a "sweater or a jacket" for cold day line ups

the scavenger hunt were we had to get "a piece of moe's chest hair"

Shawnee/Delaware day 1992 where it was so lopsided they skipped capture the flag after dinner

those yarn dream catchers at A&C

Tokyo's hackey-sack

Family Feud for breakout 1992 (wasnt melissa the #2 funniest camper?)

Quiz bowl where we had to know the periodic table (WTF?)

buying condoms at the bowling alley bathroom

Ryan McKenzie telling us that he strip teased his bunk to that "oh, so horny" song

Sending all of our counselor's stuff from England (Weird Paul Binkfield i think) onto a rowboat at 6 in the morning right before he came back from his day off, and he quit the next day! Of couse we got Jeff Liesawitz as a replacement

That hot swim counselor..michelle i think?

Dedicated to ___ from ___ CLAP CLAP CLAP
knit one pearl three
will you go out with me?

Roger Bloom with the arrow shaved in his heard for S/D day 1992

having to wear yamukas while playing sports for Blue Israel 1992 and praying before each game

Blue Cousteau's "fight song meltdown" in 1991 - we all moved our mouths but didnt sing...dead silence! no wonder we lossed.

Yellow judgement day...haha

those LNT mayor races - didnt elliot and I run one year?

rafter ball on the porch and sun deck tennis at rest time

blackjack mania and other card games

People at camp with cool names to remember:
Brook Pringle
Big bad bill connors
Lisa Larkin (she scared the crap out of me)
Tokyo Blotcher
Stu Botwinick
Naum (nayoom?)
Jon Sheinman/Jon Simons/Josh Heiman
Eric Aida
Jackie Chan (the girl with the short hair who dated meatball)
Kia Slansky (wasnt she woodstock in some play?)
Mick Waugh
J.J. Martino
Gene Sudit
Gabriel Jaekle

Maggie Katie and Jeff getting fired for sneaking off campus (missed those guys)

That Olympics board with the color bands that kept getting painted as the points went up

Hot night with those burgers...

counselors sleeping on the sun deck during OD

Everybody do the Jamie Steinfeld (put fist on head to look like a side pony tail)

American Gladiators with Frank as Xman, Jon as Sandman, Roger as Venom/Cobra, and Dave as the other guy i cant remember

the time Moe yelled at the whole camp becasue we made fun of too many counselor at skit night and he made us get up at 6AM the next day

the kitchen staff hijacking the PA system at 3AM and blasting some kind of wierd music...somehow Drew Karmitz knew it would happen...

Those awful 3 hour bus rides to soccer tournaments at some random camp where we'd play 3 games the whole day

the girlfriends:
Elise - my first real kiss during that movie Meatballs
Laura Galof
Becky Seltzer
Michelle Mahl
Becky Levy
cant remember any others right now

ok i felt this deserved it's own thread...i personally think the Krispy is so far inferior to the Dunkin that it isn't even worth discussing, however...1) KK (one letter short of KKK) does not have 52 variety of donuts like DD 2) the coolata is an experience not just a drink 3) for some reason when i am hung over i crave the sausage egg and cheese on croissant from DD (even though nobody, including the maker's of it have any idea what is actually in it) but as long as i don't bite into a tire or boot i'm fine 4) KK does not even have Vanilla or Strawberry frosted, 2 standard choices at ANY donut shop 5) KK are only good hot 6) despite it all i ate 5 KK's the day of the prank
